Wrongful death: Unnecessary operation proves fatal

There are a variety of ways in which diagnostic errors could lead to an improper path of treatment. Should a misdiagnosis leave a patient in Illinois scheduled to undergo an unnecessary surgical procedure, the impact the operation could have on his or her life could prove disastrous. A family has recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit after claiming that errors during an unnecessary operation led the apparent wrongful death of a loved one.

According to reports, the lawsuit stems from an incident in which a 74-year-old woman was scheduled to undergo an adrenalectomy. The lawsuit states that a doctor scheduled the operation after concluding that a mass on her adrenal gland indicated the presence of cancer. During an operation to remove her adrenal gland and kidney, errors were made that caused her to begin losing blood rapidly.

According to the lawsuit, the sudden loss of blood led to additional complications and the woman passed away shortly thereafter. In addition to the errors that occurred during the operation, the lawsuit states that the procedure was entirely unnecessary, as the initial diagnosis of cancer was incorrect. The family has accused the doctor of being negligent by rushing to a conclusion that led to a scenario that should have been entirely avoidable.

Losing a loved one due to the negligent decisions of another party is something no family should have to endure. Those who encounter loss under similar circumstances could choose to obtain insight on their available legal avenues by retaining the services of an attorney. An attorney in Illinois can evaluate the incident and assist a client in pursuing the full amount of restitution deserved through a wrongful death claim against the party or parties deemed responsible.
