Misdiagnosis of epilepsy leads to improper path of care

Errors during the diagnosis of a medical condition could lead to improper paths of treatment that can have a detrimental impact on a person's health. In some cases, patients in Illinois who are the subject of a misdiagnosis may feel forced to follow the prescribed path of treatment for months, or even years. A woman in another state was recently awarded $3 million in a medical malpractice claim after a doctor wrongfully diagnosed her with epilepsy.

Any form of delay in the treatment of a major medical condition could place the health of a patient in Illinois or elsewhere at serious risk. Failure to diagnose and treat a health condition in a timely manner could cause the issue to worsen with time or open a person up to other potentially harmful health complications, or both. An 11-year-old girl in another state was recently awarded $11.5 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit after negligence left her with permanent brain damage.
