Failure to diagnose blood clot leads to medical malpractice claim

Losing a loved one can be a harrowing experience, especially when the loss comes as a result of the negligence of a medical professional. Families in Illinois who lose someone close after doctors repeatedly fail to correctly diagnose their loved one's condition may be left in search of guidance on how to pursue accountability through civil court. A man in another state has recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit after claiming a failure to diagnose a blood clot led to the untimely death of his 45-year-old wife.

According to reports, the incident began when the woman visited a medical facility complaining of a cough that had persisted for nearly three weeks. She was reportedly diagnosed with a cough and sent home. Around 11 days later, she notified the facility that here symptoms were getting worse despite having been prescribed medications to treat her condition.

During this visit, her doctor also ordered a chest X-ray and asserted that the results of the scan did not indicate any concerns. However, after another follow-up appointment, her condition continued to deteriorate due to breathing complications and severe chest pain. She was rushed to the hospital the following day after losing consciousness multiples times, and she was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly after arriving. An autopsy reportedly indicated the cause of death to be a blood clot in her lung.

Failure to diagnose a serious medical condition can have disastrous impact on a person's health. Those who lose a loved one due to such negligence could choose to retain the services of an attorney for guidance on their available legal avenues. An attorney in Illinois can evaluate the client's situation and assist in pursuing the full amount of restitution deserved through a medical malpractice claim.
