Family accuses doctor of failure to diagnose kidney impairment

When doctors locate evidence suggesting the presence of an infection in an infant, taking the necessary measures to treat the condition is vital. Failure to diagnose a condition properly can bring about disastrous consequences that could leave a child in Illinois with long-term or permanent health concerns. A family in another state has recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a doctor and medical facility accusing them of negligence in the treatment of their child.

The incident reportedly began when the child was around 17 months old. According to the lawsuit, the family took her to the doctor after she began experiencing constant bouts with urinary tract infections. The family asserts that a subsequent blood test indicated abnormal levels of kidney activity, which indicated the possible presence of kidney impairment or failure.

However, no action was taken at this time, and it wasn't until several years later that the girl was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. She would ultimately require a kidney transplant. The family has since accused the doctor of failing to diagnose her condition despite the results of blood work, and they were recently awarded a judgment of over $4 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit.

Failure to diagnose a condition within a child can lead to improper courses of treatment, or in some cases, no treatment at all. Families with children that suffer serious harm due to such negligence may wish to hold the responsible parties accountable through the civil justice system, but they might need assistance in the process. Fortunately, there are attorneys in Illinois that can assist a client in pursuing the compensation entitled through a medical malpractice claim.
