Man files wrongful death claim against medical facility, doctor

Prior to performing a scheduled procedure, medical professionals in Illinois must keep watch over a patient's condition and address any concerns. Should an infection be present, doctors may choose to delay the operation to prevent complications and protect the health of a patient. A man has filed a wrongful death lawsuit following the death of his mother claiming that her doctor ignored the presence of an infection prior to performing an operation.

According to reports, the incident took place after the woman was admitted to the facility and scheduled to undergo spine surgery. However, the procedure was pushed back for one month due to the presence of a skin infection. On the day the operation took place, tests showed that her white blood cell count was abnormally high and continuing to rise, which is a sign of an infection.

Despite the results of these tests, the doctor proceeded with the operation. Following the procedure, the woman's condition continued to deteriorate, and she began experiencing a fever and pain at the site of the operation, and she eventually began to suffer form paralysis. She passed away after going into cardiac arrest and suffering a brain injury.

Individuals who are forced to endure the loss of a family member due to the negligence of a medical facility or professional may wish to pursue restitution through the civil justice system. Those who experience such a loss could choose to retain the services of an attorney for assistance in the process. An attorney in Illinois can examine the situation thoroughly and assist a client in pursuing the full amount of restitution deserved through a wrongful death lawsuit.
