Wrongful death: family awarded $2 million following death of son

When a family in Illinois is forced to take their child to a medical facility, they generally expect to receive a certain standard of care. When medical professionals fail to be diligent in the evaluation and treatment of a patient, their negligence could cause a great deal of harm to his or her health. A family in another state has recently been awarded a $2 million settlement following the wrongful death of their 17-year-old son.

According to reports, the incident began when the boy was taken to a medical facility for a kidney ultrasound. In the lawsuit, the family accused medical professionals of being negligent in their review of the ultrasound results. He reportedly suffered a pulmonary embolism soon thereafter, and the lawsuit claims that the negligence of these professionals led to his death.

Regardless of whether a family is visiting a hospital for a major procedure, or even a minor one, they generally expect those who treat their loved ones to be fully capable of performing the task at hand. Failure to identify and treat a condition of any type could cause irreparable harm to the health of a patient. Those who experience loss under similar circumstances may wish to pursue accountability, but they might need guidance in the process.

When forced to experience the loss of a child due to medical negligence, a family could be entitled to restitution, but the process can be complex. Those who face a similar situation could find it beneficial to seek guidance from an attorney early in the process. An attorney in Illinois can thoroughly evaluate the situation and assist a client in pursuing the full amount of compensation entitled through a wrongful death claim against the party or parties deemed at fault.
